My Journey into Digital Marketing

Blog Article

After I got my MBA, all I wanted to do was help brands grow. What I didn’t understand back then was that my journey wasn’t going to be a straight corporate path like most people would expect. It started venturing into the rapidly changing space of digital marketing – and it has been smooth sailing from there.

The Start: Where Business and Interest Intersect

Throughout my MBA, I pursued marketing strategy, branding, and consumer behavior classes as I found them interesting. Unlike most of my peers who paid attention to finance or operations, I was deep diving into advertising research, tracking market activity, and monitoring brand presences online.

One of the projects in college that stood out for me was working with a local business with minimal online presence. Their social media pages were stagnant, so I developed a Google Business Profile for them. Additionally, I optimized their social media pages and started running basic Facebook ads. Their foot traffic rose within weeks. That experience opened my eyes—digital avenues really do make a difference.

Making the Jump

Once I finished college, I didn’t look for jobs at big companies. Instead, I decided to freelance. A friend’s startup was my first gig, and their entire digital presence fell on my lap which included creating their website, doing SEO on it and campaigning on Instagram. The results were modest but encouraging. More importantly, I learned something every day, experimented a ton and built a lot of trust.

I began following influencers in the fields of SEO, content marketing and performance ads which made me invest in certificates and online communities for them too. Digital marketing gave me an understanding of a new field – human behavior instead of just an algorithm or platform.

Learning Along The Journey

“Failures” teach me something different every time. For example, running an ad that brought thousands of impressions but no conversions is a failure. These failures make me resilient towards deeper testing and analyzing in the improvement phase. Adapting strategies became easy when I learned to implement cross-industry approaches from e-commerce to local service businesses.

Through the online marketing growth of small businesses, some of my most rewarding experiences have come up. It feels great when your client gives updates like seeing their first online order due to your campaign.

Where I Am Today

These days, I assist businesses develop through a developed strategy that is tailored to each brand’s needs. I do SEO, social media marketing, and performance advertising. More importantly, I believe in honest marketing — assisting clients with telling their stories to the audiences most suited for them.

My story into digital marketing didn’t really start with a plan. Succeeding came from my curiosities and learning which help grow incrementally day by day until this point where I currently am on the journey.
